A Little History

This history will focus on Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as the appeared for the first time and subsequent times after. If you’re looking for their childhood origin, check out the origin of Scarlet Witch.

Appearing in X-Men #4 for the first time, Quicksilver is shown to be the twin brother to another mutant, the Scarlet Witch. In this issue, the protection he shows for his sister is placed on full display. In this issue, Quicksilver comes to the rescue of Scarlet Witch when a fellow team member looks to make her his bride. The squabble ended when the two remembered that neither wanted to anger the leader, Magneto.

Magneto took this time to remind him that he had rescued he and his sister from an angry mob. He then reminded them that he had given his sister and him a spot on his team when the outside world turned away from them. Despite being thankful, he told Magneto that while he was happy to be a part of something, he wasn’t entirely set on world domination.

Regardless of this, the two participated in numerous battles between Magneto and the X-Men. Eventually, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch sided against Magneto when he tried to jettison the X-Men out of an airlock on his home base, Asteroid M. Seeing an opening, Cyclops desperately begged him to join the X-Men instead of fight against them.

He wouldn’t do it.

Instead, he continued to fight alongside Magneto. This would, however, change after Iceman froze him solid. This prompted Scarlet Witch to plead to Cyclops to thaw him out. Now saved, the twins voiced their frustrations of being left behind by Magneto. This led them to quit the team and heading back home to Europe.

Shortly after, Quicksilver reappeared trying to coerce Scarlet Witch into using their powers for good without taking sides in the mutant/human war. This led to them joining the Avengers.
