2025’s Massive Horror Box Office Hit Now Streaming on HBO Max
HBO has just added a bunch of new movies to its streaming lineup this month, and one of the biggest arrivals is Final Destination: Bloodlines. This new horror flick has been making waves since its release earlier this year, and now fans can finally stream it from home.
Final Destination: Bloodlines is the sixth movie in the long-running Final Destination series. It’s directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, with the script written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, based on a story they came up with along with Jon Watts.
The main character, Stefani, played by Kaitlyn Santa Juana, is a college student who finds out she’s inherited terrifying visions from her dying grandmother. These visions are tied to a deadly skyscraper disaster that was avoided back in 1969. Her grandmother warns her that Death itself is coming for their family. The cast also includes Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Brec Bassinger, and Tony Todd.
The road to this movie was a long one. After the big success of Final Destination 5 in 2011, there was talk about continuing the franchise, but with a fresh approach. In March 2020, series producer Craig Perry said the new story would be set “in the world of first responders”. Later that year, creator Jeffrey Reddick confirmed that it would be the sixth movie in the series. By January 2022, it was planned for an HBO Max release, but that changed in March 2024 when Warner Bros. announced it would hit theaters instead. Filming started in Vancouver in March 2024 and wrapped in May, after some delays caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The movie finally came out in U.S. theaters on May 16, 2025, and it’s been a huge hit. According to Warner Bros., as of July 20, 2025, it has made $138.1 million in the U.S. and Canada, and $147.2 million in other countries. That’s a total of $285.3 million worldwide, making it not just the highest-earning film in the series, but also the best-reviewed.
Critics have been surprisingly kind to Bloodlines. On Rotten Tomatoes, 93% of 223 critics gave it a positive review. The site’s summary says, “Adding some surprising emotional layers onto the ghoulish bones of Final Destination’s mythology, Bloodlines ingeniously executes grisly set pieces with precision and turns impending doom into outrageous fun.” Metacritic gave it a score of 73 out of 100, which they describe as “generally favorable” reviews.
Audiences have also reacted well. CinemaScore gave it a B+ grade, and PostTrak reports that most viewers gave it four out of five stars, with almost 70% saying they’d definitely recommend it.
With all this praise, it’s no wonder HBO added it to their streaming library so soon after its theater run. Whether you’ve been a fan since the first movie or you’re just curious about the hype, now might be the perfect time to see why Final Destination: Bloodlines has taken both the box office and critics by surprise.
