‘3 Body Problem’ Expands Cast with Two New Series Regulars as Season 2 Gears Up
Netflix’s sci-fi series 3 Body Problem is gearing up for its second season, and the cast is getting bigger. Claudia Doumit and Ellie De Lange are joining the show as series regulars, according to Deadline. Doumit is known for playing Victoria Neuman in The Boys, while De Lange has appeared in Wolf Hall and The Serpent.
Created by David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, 3 Body Problem is based on the hit Chinese sci-fi novels by Cixin Liu.
The story follows humanity’s first contact with an alien civilization, and it all begins with a young woman’s decision during the Cultural Revolution in 1960s China. That choice ends up affecting events across space and time, leading to a major crisis for all of humanity.
In the first season, strange things start to happen. Scientists notice that the laws of physics don’t work the way they should anymore. As the mystery grows, a group of brilliant minds team up with a determined detective to face what might be the biggest threat the world has ever known.
Season 2 picks up as the alien invasion gets closer. Humanity begins to prepare for what’s coming, not just on Earth, but in other parts of the universe too. Claudia Doumit will play Captain Van Rijn, and Ellie De Lange takes on the role of Ayla.
The first season had a strong run on Netflix. It stayed in the top spot globally for three weeks and held a place in the Top 10 for seven weeks total. The show reached the Top 10 in 93 different countries, which shows just how wide its audience really is. Even the music made an impact, three tracks from the soundtrack hit Billboard’s Top TV Songs Chart, with Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” landing at number one.
3 Body Problem also earned six Primetime Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series. Netflix renewed the show for two more seasons in May 2024, showing clear confidence in the story’s future. The first season had a massive budget too, reportedly $20 million per episode, adding up to around $160 million overall.
Both new cast members are keeping busy outside of the show as well. Doumit will appear next in SOULM8TE, a spinoff of M3GAN from Atomic Monster and Blumhouse. De Lange will be in Netflix’s upcoming thriller Run Away, based on a novel by Harlan Coben.
With production now underway, season 2 of 3 Body Problem is shaping up to be even bigger than the first. As new faces join the battle and the stakes rise, fans can expect more mystery, more action, and a closer look at what it really means to face the unknown.
The news was first reported by Deadline.
