50 Cent is celebrating the success of his new Netflix docuseries about Sean “Diddy” Combs and took a playful jab at the streaming giant’s sci-fi hit, Stranger Things.

The rapper, who produced Sean Combs: The Reckoning, shared an Instagram post joking that Netflix spent $500 million on Stranger Things season 5 only to be “beat by Diddy doing stranger things.”

In the post, 50 Cent showed himself at work and explained his view on the competition. “This is my 3rd meeting today at Netflix, look guy I know you spent a lot of money on Stranger Things but it can’t f*** with me. I’m #1 in 43 countries and #2 in 8 others just facts,” he wrote, highlighting the early success of his four-part docuseries.

The numbers show that Sean Combs: The Reckoning performed strongly. The docuseries, which details the days leading up to Diddy’s arrest and his longtime feud with 50 Cent, launched on December 2. Variety reported it earned 21.8 million views in just six days. By comparison, Stranger Things season 5’s first week drew 59.6 million viewers, dropping to 23.6 million in its second week, but still maintaining the top TV title on Netflix during that period.

The timing and promotion of 50 Cent’s docuseries make its success even more notable. Netflix announced the release date only a week before launch, and the project faced a cease-and-desist letter from Diddy’s team prior to release.

50 Cent explained his motivation for producing the series in an interview with Good Morning America. “If I didn’t say anything, you would interpret it as hip-hop is fine with his behaviours,” he said.

“There’s no one else being vocal. So, you would look at it and just say … ‘mind your business,’ or ‘lemme not say nothin’ about nothin’,’ those things that would allow an entire culture to register as if they’re for that behaviour.”

The project shows how 50 Cent has leveraged his influence in hip-hop to spotlight a controversial story, while also creating content that clearly resonates with viewers.

50 Cent’s bold move to produce the docuseries while teasing one of Netflix’s biggest shows shows his confidence and flair for publicity. It’s a reminder of how streaming platforms and celebrity influence intersect today. What do you think about 50 Cent taking shots at Stranger Things? Share your thoughts in the comments.
