‘9-1-1: Nashville’ Season 2 Episode 4 Recap & Ending Explained: Dixie’s Snake-Filled Flight and Shocking Ryman Ending Explained
Few procedurals stretch the definition of an emergency quite like ‘9-1-1: Nashville’. Season 2 Episode 4, titled ‘In Cold Blood,’ aired on ABC on Thursday, Nov. 5, and it pushes the franchise’s love of outrageous rescues to a new altitude. The hour mixes an airborne crisis with tension at the dispatch center and a detective haunted by his past.
The spinoff returned this fall after a first-season finale that ended with a major unresolved fight between Blythe and Dixie. Season 2 also added Ryan Phillippe as Detective Rogue Kelly, and Rashad Raisani serves as showrunner. Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, Chris O’Donnell and Angela Bassett are among the executive producers.
Outrageous by Design
The cast has been open about the show’s appetite for the absurd. O’Donnell, who plays Don Hart, told On The Red Carpet earlier this year that “It tends to be the more outrageous, the better.” He added that the team still tries to keep each emergency as honest as possible.
‘In Cold Blood’ tests that philosophy. Dixie is upset about being sent to Milwaukee, since Blythe owns her contract and decides where she tours. Then a killer known as the Pharaoh sets his next plague loose on her flight.
Terror in the Skies
A timed device releases snakes soon after takeoff, and passengers, including a 12-year-old boy named Danny, are bitten. Calls flood the dispatch center, and Cammie takes Dixie’s. She guides the singer to the front of the plane for the EpiPen in the med kit.
Dixie then returns to the back, where she has barricaded herself and Danny, and uses a fire extinguisher to keep the snakes away, since the cold sends them into brumation. When the nose gear refuses to come down because of the snakes, the plane makes a rough landing. Dixie sings “Amazing Grace” as passengers pray and pass messages for loved ones to dispatchers.
The 113 waits on the runway with antivenom, and Celeb Dirty Laundry’s recap notes that no one dies. Dixie also reassures her son Blue that she was not bitten.
Trouble on the Ground
Back at the dispatch center, a new manager arrives and tells the dispatchers to set aside empathy. Cammie pushes back and refuses to accept that her team should not pray with the passengers of a flight that nearly went down.
Rogue’s investigation brings its own pain. After Ryan offers theories, Rogue snaps at him, partly because the last serial killer he chased cost him a loved one. The Staten Island Strangler killed his wife, and Rogue later apologizes, admits Ryan was right and asks for his help.
The killer’s clue, the numbers “7-2-9,” points to a Nashville-to-Milwaukee flight. The Pharaoh appears to be targeting loved ones of the first responders who stopped him, since Dixie’s son Blue is a firefighter and her ex is one as well.

‘In Cold Blood’ Ending Explained
The emotional payoff arrives onstage. Danny’s father, Russell Dickerson, works in the music industry, wants to repay Dixie and gives her the chance to sing at the Ryman. Celeb Dirty Laundry added that his favor could help free her from her contract with Blythe, who had been booking her into small venues with few ticket sales.
Dixie then performs “Hey, Lady B” despite threats of a lawsuit and reveals the song is about Blythe, who watches and says, “Well played, Dixie.” In an interview with TV Insider, LeAnn Rimes framed the moment as a release, asking, “what better place to let it rip than the Ryman stage?”
Not every thread resolves. Agent Sam Duncan, who checked the snake crate, ends up in a coma after a snake bite that occurred two hours before the first distress call. Rogue wants Ryan’s help determining how involved Duncan was, and he had also ignored federal agents who told him not to check the plane.

What Comes Next
Dixie’s public callout sets up a collision with Blythe, whom Celeb Dirty Laundry expects to answer with revenge. Whether Danny’s father can actually free Dixie from her contract remains an open question.
Duncan’s coma leaves the Pharaoh case with unanswered questions about how deep the plot runs. For Rogue and Ryan, the repaired working relationship now carries real stakes.
Was Dixie right to publicly call out Blythe at the Ryman?
