Illness Forces Clooney Out of Venice Film Festival Events
George Clooney had to cancel several planned appearances at the Venice Film Festival this week after falling ill. His team confirmed to Fox News Digital that the 64-year-old actor is dealing with a sinus infection and was advised by doctors to take it easy.
“George has been diagnosed with a sinus infection and is under doctor’s orders to cut back all activities today,” his representative explained.
Because of his condition, Clooney was absent from a press event promoting Jay Kelly, his latest movie directed by Noah Baumbach.
He also missed a private dinner with co-stars Adam Sandler and Laura Dern. On Wednesday afternoon, he was seen quietly leaving his hotel by water taxi, heading away from the festival to rest.
The next day, his illness kept him away from the official press conference for the Netflix film as well.
Organizers addressed his absence, saying, “As you may know, George Clooney is not going to be here because he has a bad sinus infection. We really hope, and I think he should be on the red carpet tonight. But he is very sorry he cannot be with us.” Director Noah Baumbach tried to lift the mood, joking, “Even movie stars get sick.”
A sinus infection, also called sinusitis, is an inflammation of the sinus cavities. It can cause painful pressure around the forehead, cheeks, and eyes.
Other symptoms often include headaches, blocked nasal passages, fatigue, and sometimes fever. In severe cases, even simple activities like talking or walking around can be exhausting. These symptoms likely explain why Clooney was not able to take part in long press sessions or attend evening events.
Clooney had arrived in Venice earlier in the week with his wife, Amal. The couple was seen arriving in style by boat, drawing attention with their coordinated outfits. But soon after their arrival, the actor’s health became the bigger story.
For now, Clooney is expected to rest until he feels better. His condition forced him to miss some of the biggest festival appearances, though his team hopes he will be strong enough to return for the red carpet.
It’s a reminder that even Hollywood stars aren’t immune to everyday health issues. Sinus infections can be very draining, especially when combined with the pressure of public events. Clooney’s decision to rest instead of pushing through was the right one.
