New ‘Clayface’ Set Photos Debunk Major DCU Rumor
The first set photos from DC Studios’ upcoming Clayface movie have finally appeared online, and they’ve already cleared up one rumor that has been floating around since the start of the DCU.
The images show police cars, news vans, and other vehicles from Gotham City. What really stood out to fans was the Gotham City Police Department logo.
It looks completely different from the one used in Matt Reeves’ The Batman projects. Some people pointed out that police logos can be updated, but in this case, it’s not likely. Reeves’ films have always been set outside of the DCU, and the new Batman for this universe is expected to make his debut in The Brave and the Bold.

This clears things up for anyone who still thought Reeves’ Gotham was going to cross over with the main DCU. The new photos prove we’re getting a fresh take on Gotham City, and that means a different visual world than the one we’ve seen in Reeves’ crime saga.
The Clayface movie itself is shaping up to be one of the darker and more unique DC projects. Back in March 2023, filmmaker Mike Flanagan met with James Gunn and Peter Safran to talk about the idea of making a Clayface film.
Flanagan wanted to tell the story in a different way, showing him as more than just a villain. Later in December 2024, DC Studios officially gave the movie the green light, with Flanagan writing the script.
Peter Safran even compared the movie’s tone to David Cronenberg’s The Fly from 1986, saying it will lean into body horror.
Reeves is producing the film through his company 6th & Idaho Productions, though Flanagan had to step away from directing because of his work on The Exorcist and a new Carrie miniseries.
Instead, James Watkins is directing with Hossein Amini handling a new draft of the script. In June of this year, Tom Rhys Harries was confirmed to be playing Clayface.
Filming officially began this mont at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England. The movie is set to arrive in theaters on September 11, 2026.
For now, fans are buzzing about the set photos and what they could mean. Many are hoping that with Gotham firmly set in the DCU, there’s a chance we might finally see the new Batman make his first live-action appearance in Clayface.
