HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Reboot Brings Back a Familiar Face from the Movies
Warwick Davis is officially back at Hogwarts. The actor, who played Professor Filius Flitwick in the original Harry Potter films, will return to the same role in HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series. The announcement was made during the annual Back to Hogwarts event on September 1.
So far, Davis is the only cast member from the original films confirmed to reprise his part in the reboot. The series, which has been in development for years, is set to premiere in 2027 on HBO in the United States.
Along with Davis’ return, HBO has revealed more casting updates.
Elijah Oshin will appear as Dean Thomas, Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe, and William Nash as Gregory Goyle. On the staff side, Sirine Saba joins as Professor Sprout, Richard Durden as Professor Binns, and Bríd Brennan as Madam Pomfrey. Leigh Gill will also play Griphook, representing Gringotts in the story.
Over the summer, HBO confirmed several other major roles. John Lithgow will play Dumbledore, Janet McTeer takes on McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu steps into the role of Snape, and Nick Frost will portray Hagrid.
The trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione will be played by McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton after a global search that considered more than 30,000 young actors.
The series has been in the works since 2021 with Francesca Gardiner as showrunner and Mark Mylod directing. HBO is aiming for a decade-long run, adapting the books into multiple seasons.
Filming started in July 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, the same location used for the original movies. Production on the first season will continue into 2026, with season two expected to follow soon after.
The show will kick off with eight episodes in its first season. Sets have already been built, large filming locations have been used across the UK and Europe, and photos from production have been released showing the new cast in costume.
Warwick Davis returning as Flitwick marks an important link between the new series and the original films. His comeback may excite longtime fans who grew up with the movies, while the rest of the cast brings a fresh start for a new generation.
