‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Trailer Released — Ralph Fiennes Faces a New Nightmare
Sony Pictures has dropped the first trailer for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, the newest installment in the 28 Days Later horror series.
The film continues the story from 28 Years Later (2025) and takes place in a post-apocalyptic England, where survivors face threats that go beyond the infected.
The story focuses on Spike, played by Alfie Williams, who encounters the dangerous cult leader Sir Jimmy Crystal, played by Jack O’Connell, and his group of skilled killers. According to the official synopsis, “Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship — with consequences that could change the world as they know it — and Spike’s encounter with Jimmy Crystal becomes a nightmare he can’t escape.”
It adds, “In the world of ‘The Bone Temple,’ the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival — the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.”
Even greater changes are still to come.

The film is directed by Nia DaCosta with a script by Alex Garland. It was filmed back-to-back with the previous movie and is the fourth film in the 28 Days Later franchise. Alongside Alfie Williams, Jack O’Connell, and Ralph Fiennes, the cast includes Cillian Murphy, who returns as Jim from the original outbreak.
Other cast members are Emma Laird, Maura Bird, Erin Kellyman, Chi Lewis-Parry, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, though Taylor-Johnson confirmed that his character will not appear this time, saying, “we did one and two back to back.”
Production for the movie began in August 2024, with filming taking place in locations such as Ennerdale, Cumbria. The movie was produced by Columbia Pictures and is scheduled for release in the United States on January 16, 2026, through Sony Pictures Releasing. Plans for a sequel are already underway, completing the trilogy with Danny Boyle returning to direct the final chapter.
