The first trailer for The Housemaid is finally here, giving fans a glimpse of Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in a tense new thriller. The film is based on Freida McFadden’s hit novel and is being directed by Paul Feig.

Sweeney plays Millie Calloway, a young woman trying to move on from a troubled past. She takes a job working as a live-in maid for the wealthy Winchester family, only to realize that the picture-perfect home hides dangerous secrets.

Seyfried appears as Nina Winchester, the family’s mysterious matriarch, while Brandon Sklenar plays her husband Andrew. Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, and Mark Grossman also round out the cast.

Lionsgate first revealed plans for the movie in 2024, with Todd Lieberman producing and Rebecca Sonnenshine writing the script. Sweeney and Seyfried not only lead the cast but also serve as executive producers alongside author Freida McFadden. Additional cast members joined later that year, with filming taking place in New Jersey during the early months of 2025. Production wrapped in March.

Music for the film is being composed by Theodore Shapiro, who has worked with director Feig several times before.

The Housemaid will open in U.S. theaters on December 19. The date was moved up from its earlier planned Christmas release.

The new trailer highlights the chilling atmosphere, with Sweeney’s character caught in a web of lies and Seyfried’s role adding to the suspense.

This looks like it could be one of the standout thrillers of the year. Sweeney has been building a strong track record in dramatic roles, and pairing her with Seyfried feels like a smart move. What do you think of the trailer? Does this adaptation of McFadden’s novel look like it will live up to the hype? Share your thoughts in the comments.
