‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Officially Moves to New Release Date
Sony has announced a new release date for the highly anticipated animated film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The third movie in the Spider-Verse trilogy, the film will now hit theaters on June 18, 2027, which happens to fall on Father’s Day weekend, according to Deadline.
The date shift comes after several previous changes and a period when the movie was temporarily removed from the schedule.
The film continues the story of Miles Morales, the Spider-Man of the Spider-Verse, and picks up after the cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023). Miles finds himself trapped in an alternate universe as he works to save his family. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing.
The movie is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. The voice cast includes Shameik Moore as Miles, Hailee Steinfeld, Jason Schwartzman, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, and Nicolas Cage.
The project has had a long development period. Sony started planning a sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse before that movie even premiered in 2018. Eventually, the sequel was split into two films.
The third movie was officially titled in April 2022 and originally had a March 29, 2024 release date. Production delays and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, which blocked voice recording work, pushed back the release. By March of this year, a new date of June 4, 2027 was announced, but that was later moved to June 25, 2027. The final decision shifted the release up a week to June 18, aligning with Father’s Day.
The Spider-Verse trilogy has been praised for its unique animation style, engaging storytelling, and fresh take on the Spider-Man character. Beyond the Spider-Verse is expected to conclude the trilogy while exploring the multiverse and introducing fans to even more versions of Spider-Man.
