James Gunn, the new co-head of DC Studios, is known for his love of Big Brother, and he’s now hinting that some of his favorite reality stars could appear in the DC Universe.

Gunn recently joined Big Brother: Unlocked as a celebrity panelist to talk about the latest season of the CBS show. During the appearance, Entertainment Weekly asked if he might follow in the footsteps of Mike White, the Survivor alum who has blended reality TV stars into scripted projects like The White Lotus.

Gunn confirmed that the idea is on the table. “I’ve become very friendly with [winners] Taylor [Hale] and Derrick [Levasseur],” he told EW. “And so if they want a cameo in a DC project in the future — not necessarily with dialogue, but if they want to come by and do what other people have been doing in my movies for so long, they’re more than welcome to do that.”

The director also made it clear that reality stars wouldn’t be tasked with playing major comic book characters. The goal would be small, fun appearances rather than taking on known DC roles.

Interestingly, the idea originally came from the show’s host, who suggested Gunn include Big Brother alumni in the DCU. “I would be tickled pink if the DCU had a wink and a nod to the BBU with a cameo of Taylor,” she said. “Or have a scene on a Hollywood lot and you see Zingbot on a coffee break holding the head part of his costume while yucking it up with the Mastermind and Jankie.”

Gunn has a long history of adding surprise cameos in his films, and this seems like a natural next step. Bringing reality stars into the DC Universe could be a fun way to merge pop culture with superhero storytelling.
