Crunchyroll’s Top Sports Anime Gets Live-Action Movie and Brand New Season
Blue Lock fans have reason to celebrate as the soccer anime is expanding even further. At the recent “BLUELOCK EGOIST FESTA 2025” event in Japan, it was officially announced that the series is getting a third season and a live-action movie adaptation.
The upcoming third season will continue from the end of Season 2, following the Neo Egoist League Arc from Muneyuki Kaneshiro’s original manga.
The arc introduces a group of international players, offering even more intense competition for Isagi and his teammates. Kaneshiro shared his excitement with fans, saying, “Season 3 is officially confirmed!!! We did it… Huge thanks to the entire Egoist production team…! This marks a brand-new beginning for Isagi and for us as well! We’ll be creating this with full ego, eyes spinning, and tongues out, so get on your knees and wait for it!”
Illustrator Yusuke Nomura also commented on the upcoming season, “It’s finally been announced! A brand-new anime series!! We’re finally bringing the Neo Egoist League to life on screen. The eccentric international players—who are even more intense than the Blue Lock team—are coming. Please wait for it!”
Alongside the new season, fans learned that a live-action Blue Lock movie is in development, scheduled for a Summer 2026 release in Japan to coincide with the World Cup. CREDEUS, the studio behind live-action adaptations of Kingdom and Golden Kamuy, will handle production, while Toho will manage distribution within Japan. No details have been revealed yet regarding the cast, crew, or international release plans.
Blue Lock, written by Kaneshiro and illustrated by Nomura, has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 2018. As of August, it has 35 collected volumes. The anime adaptation produced by Eight Bit first aired from October 2022 to March 2023, followed by a spin-off anime film in April 2024.
Season 2, titled vs. U-20 Japan, aired from October to December 2024. By September, the manga had over 50 million copies in circulation worldwide, and it won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2021.
Fans now have a lot to look forward to, from the return of the anime to seeing the Neo Egoist League brought to life on screen, as well as the excitement of a live-action film next summer.
