Penelope Milford, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in “Coming Home,” “Valentino,” and “Heathers,” has died at the age of 77.

Her passing was confirmed by her sister, Candace Saint, who told The Hollywood Reporter that Milford passed away at an assisted living facility in Saugerties, New York, on Tuesday, October 14. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Milford was born on March 23, 1948, in St. Louis, Missouri, and later moved with her family to Illinois. She began her career on stage, performing in musicals and improv, eventually earning a Tony nomination for her work in the musical “Shenandoah.”

She later made her mark in film, gaining widespread recognition for her Oscar-nominated performance in the 1978 drama “Coming Home,” where she starred alongside Jane Fonda and Jon Voight.

Over the years, Milford built a diverse career in both film and television. She appeared in the 1977 drama “Valentino,” portraying a key figure in the life of the legendary silent film star Rudolph Valentino. She also took on memorable roles in cult favorites like the dark comedy “Heathers” (1988), which has become an enduring classic.

Fans and fellow actors have taken to social media to honor Milford.
