The official trailer for Primate has just dropped, giving fans their first real look at the new horror movie from director Johannes Roberts.

The film, set to arrive in theaters on January 9, 2026, is backed by Paramount Pictures and already has critics talking after its debut at Fantastic Fest last month.

Primate brings together a strong cast, including Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, and Oscar-winner Troy Kotsur.

The movie centers on an unsettling story filled with mystery and fear, though details about the plot are still being kept quiet. Early reactions from Fantastic Fest suggest that Roberts has once again delivered a tense and atmospheric horror film.

The project first came to life in mid-2024 when Paramount gave it the go-ahead. Roberts, who co-wrote the film with Ernest Riera, teamed up with producer Walter Hamada under his first-look deal with the studio. Troy Kotsur was the first major actor announced, followed by Johnny Sequoyah a few weeks later. By October 2024, the full cast had been finalized.

Production kicked off in September 2024, as Roberts confirmed through a post on his Instagram. Just a few months later, in early November, he announced that filming had wrapped. The movie has since gone through post-production and made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 18.

The response so far has been encouraging. On Rotten Tomatoes, Primate holds an 88% approval rating from critics, showing that horror fans might have something special to look forward to.

Now, with the trailer finally out, audiences get a glimpse of what to expect, eerie tension, dark visuals, and a growing sense of dread. Roberts, known for his work on 47 Meters Down and The Strangers: Prey at Night, seems to be diving back into familiar territory, blending fear with emotional storytelling.
