Snoop Dogg has recently taken a surprising turn in his public stance on LGBTQ+ issues, using his children’s show Doggyland to promote inclusivity and support for LGBTQ+ families.

The rapper partnered with GLAAD for Spirit Day, an initiative that raises awareness against bullying LGBTQ+ youth. As part of the campaign, Snoop sat down with The Voice alum Jeremy Beloate, who was on Team Snoop during the NBC reality series, to talk about their collaboration on a new song called Love Is Love.

The song appears in Doggyland, Snoop’s animated children’s YouTube series.

“It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is…being able to have parents from all walks of life, whether it be two fathers, two mothers, whatever it is, love is the key,” Snoop said during the conversation.

In the show, Beloate voices a puppy named Zippy, who joins the other Doggyland characters to sing Love Is Love, celebrating the love shared within all kinds of families. Snoop voices Bow Wizzle, one of the main characters.

The song features lyrics like: “Our parents are different / No two are the same / But the one thing that’s for certain is the love won’t change,” while showing several same-sex couples. Another line says: “Families are special / They are so unique / Everybody’s got a purpose, more than what you see / We love you, parents / We love you so.” You can check out the song on YouTube.

Snoop also issued a statement about the project: “At the end of the day, it’s all about love — that’s what we’re teachin’ the kids with ‘Love Is Love.’ Partnering with GLAAD for Spirit Day just felt right, because spreading love and respect for everybody is what real gangstas do. We’re showin’ the next generation that kindness is cool, inclusion is powerful, and love always wins.”

So why are we even reporting on this? Well….

The move comes after Snoop faced questions about LGBTQ+ representation in media. On the It’s Giving podcast, he described taking his grandson to see the 2022 Pixar film Lightyear, where one character has two mothers.

Snoop admitted he was caught off guard and didn’t know how to answer his grandson’s questions. “They just said, she and she had a baby — they’re both women. How does she have a baby? It f**** me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of s*** that I don’t have an answer for,”* he said.

He added that he felt the film’s content was too advanced for young children, saying, “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

Snoop’s stance marks a significant change from his past comments. He previously called Caitlyn Jenner a “science project” and used an anti-gay slur on Instagram in 2014.

His new work supporting LGBTQ+ families has sparked discussion among fans, with some questioning whether his change of heart is genuine or influenced by public backlash. It’s probably the latter, to be honest. Some of his critics in the past called for him to be removed as a headliner for big events.

What do you think about Snoop Dogg’s new stance? Do you believe this change is genuine, or is it more about public pressure? Share your thoughts in the comments.
