Britney Spears Fires Back at Kevin Federline Over Parenting Allegations in His new Memoir
Britney Spears has publicly responded to her ex-husband Kevin Federline after he made claims about her parenting in his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew.
An excerpt of the book, published by The New York Times ahead of its October 21 release, describes a shocking scene in which Federline alleges their children woke up to Spears watching them sleep “with a knife in her hand.”
He also writes, “The clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”
In response, Spears took to Instagram and X on Wednesday to tell her side. She called Federline’s claims “extremely hurtful and exhausting” and said she has always fought to be part of her sons’ lives. “Relationships with teenage boys is complex. I have felt demoralized by this situation and have always asked and almost begged for them to be a part of my life,” she wrote.
Spears noted that her children have seen “the lack of respect shown by [their] own father for me.” She added that one son has only seen her for 45 minutes in the past five years, and the other has had just four visits. “I have pride too. From now on I will let them know when I am available,” she said.

Spears also criticized Federline’s book directly, calling it full of “white lies” that will “go straight to the bank” while she is left hurt. She explained, “I will always love them and if you really know me, you won’t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking. I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years. I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
Spears and Federline were married in 2004 and divorced two years later in 2006. They share two sons, who are now 19 and 20 years old.
