From Norse to Nile? Kratos Actor Eyes Egyptian Saga
Kratos actor Christopher Judge has shared his hopes that the next God of War game could take place in Egypt.
Speaking at a panel at MCM London Comic Con, Judge explained that visiting this setting would be “a completion of my circle,” referencing his fame for playing Teal’c in Stargate. He added, “but whatever is decided… if there is another game, no matter what pantheon it is, it will be great.” The report comes from GamesRadar+.
Fans have speculated about Egypt as the next setting for God of War for some time. After Kratos conquered the Greek and Norse pantheons, it seems natural for him to face a new group of gods.
Earlier this year, reports suggested that Sony was casting Middle Eastern actors for an upcoming AAA game, which many think could be the next God of War, potentially set in Egypt.
Meanwhile, the God of War universe is also expanding to television. On March 7, 2022, Deadline reported that a live-action series was in talks at Amazon Prime Video. The show is being developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, creators of The Expanse, along with Rafe Judkins, the showrunner for The Wheel of Time.
Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan confirmed during an investor briefing on May 26, 2022, that a God of War TV series is indeed in the works for Amazon Prime Video.
The series, officially ordered on December 14, 2022, is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios with PlayStation Productions.
It will premiere in more than 240 countries and territories. Executive producers include Santa Monica Studio’s Creative Director Cory Barlog, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Santa Monica Studio’s Yumi Yang, and Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee. Santa Monica Studio’s Jeff Ketcham is serving as a co-executive producer. The show will adapt the Norse era of the games, starting with the events of the 2018 installment.
Originally, Fergus, Ostby, and Judkins were writing the series, with Judkins as showrunner. By January 2024, writing had begun, but in October it was reported that the team had left the project as the studios wanted to take a new direction. Ronald D. Moore, known for his prolific work in TV, has now been hired as the series writer, showrunner, and executive producer.
