The White House recently posted a video on its official TikTok account using a Taylor Swift song, sparking attention because of the singer’s history with President Donald Trump.

The clip featured Swift’s hit “The Fate of Ophelia” alongside images of Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump.

In the video, one lyric, “Don’t care where the hell you been,” appears over Trump’s mug shot from his 2023 charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Another line, “’Cause now you’re mine,” is shown with a photo of Trump holding an American flag. The clip ends with a picture of him eating McDonald’s fries under an altered lyric reading, “The fate of America.”

When Variety asked for a comment, a White House spokesperson said, “We made this video because we knew fake news media brands like Variety would breathlessly amplify them. Congrats, you got played.”

The post is surprising given Trump’s history with Swift. The singer has been outspoken against him, and he has publicly criticized her multiple times. Most notably, after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, Trump posted on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.”

It is unclear why the White House decided to use her music, especially considering the past tensions between the former president and the singer. Nonetheless, the video has drawn widespread attention from fans of both Swift and political observers.
