Josh Brolin has once again sparked speculation about Thanos returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor hinted that the Mad Titan could make a comeback. “If Joe Russo comes to me, which he may have, I don’t know, and has an idea, then I might acquiesce,” Brolin said.

There is no official confirmation that Thanos will return soon. The MCU is currently focused on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom as the next major villain.

Brolin last appeared as Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, which showed the Titan’s final defeat and concluded the Infinity Saga.

This isn’t the first time Brolin has teased a return. In a previous interview with Collider, he shared that reprising Thanos would depend on the right circumstances and the involvement of directors Joe and Anthony Russo. “I’m not kidding — there’s a process to playing Thanos. It’s like, ‘Oh, they’re going to bring Thanos back.’ … Ultimately, it’s about what fits in their minds and what fits in mine. Thanos must fit if he’s going to return. I would do anything the Russos wanted me to do,” Brolin explained.

When asked about ongoing talks with Marvel, Brolin sidestepped the question, leaving fans to wonder what the future holds.

Almost two years ago, the actor hinted more directly at a possible return. “You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back. And there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back,” he said.

Fans are now left guessing whether Thanos will make a full return to the MCU or remain a hint of the past.
