Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine Sign Deals for AI Voice Replicas With ElevenLabs
Actors Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine have teamed up with the AI audio company ElevenLabs to create digital versions of their voices.
The company, based in New York, is known for developing realistic voice technology that can be used for films, audiobooks, and other creative projects.
McConaughey, who has worked with ElevenLabs since it was founded in 2022, is also investing in the company. He’s using its technology to release a Spanish-language version of his newsletter Lyrics of Livin’, using an AI version of his own voice.
In a statement shared by ElevenLabs, McConaughey said, “Since our first conversation, I’ve been impressed by how the ElevenLabs team has taken the magic of the core technology and turned it into products that creators, enterprises and storytellers use daily.”
“I launched my newsletter, ‘Lyrics of Livin’,’ as a way to share stories and ideas in my own voice with those who want to listen. Now, thanks to ElevenLabs, ‘Lyrics of Livin’’ is expanding with a Spanish language edition, allowing us to reach and connect with even more people. To everyone building with voice technology: keep going. You’re helping create a future where we can look up from our screens and connect through something as timeless as humanity itself — our voices.”
Michael Caine, meanwhile, has joined ElevenLabs’ new Iconic Voice Marketplace, a platform that allows studios and creative teams to request permission to use his voice for different projects, including narrations for books and articles.
The 92-year-old actor’s voice can already be heard in a promotional reel from ElevenLabs, where his AI-generated version says, “Each new advancement in technology is met with caution — and rightly so. But every single time, the human drive for passion, artistry and creativity prevails. Because technology is just the medium. This is humanity — amplified.”
Caine said in a statement provided by ElevenLabs, “For years, I’ve lent my voice to stories that moved people — tales of courage, of wit, of the human spirit. Now, I’m helping others find theirs. With ElevenLabs, we can preserve and share voices — not just mine, but anyone’s. ElevenLabs is at the very forefront of technology, using innovation not to replace humanity, but to celebrate it.”
“ElevenLabs gives everyone the tools to be heard. It’s not about replacing voices; it’s about amplifying them, opening doors for new storytellers everywhere. I’ve spent a lifetime telling stories. ElevenLabs will help the next generation tell theirs.”
The Iconic Voice Marketplace features the voices of other well-known figures such as Judy Garland, John Wayne, Maya Angelou, and Babe Ruth. ElevenLabs said the marketplace aims to handle the ethical side of voice replication by allowing proper licensing and approval from the rights holders.
Mati Staniszewski, co-founder and CEO of ElevenLabs, said the platform shows how AI can create opportunities for both studios and talent while maintaining respect for creativity. He described Caine as “an iconic creator and voice whose cultural and artistic consequence we hope will only be further championed through this platform.”
According to ElevenLabs, the new marketplace connects brands and creative teams directly with talent or their representatives, ensuring projects are approved and fairly licensed before using AI-generated voices.
