Paramount is moving ahead with a brand-new Star Trek film, and the studio has tapped Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to lead the project. According to Deadline, the pair will write, produce, and direct the movie under their GoldDay banner.

The new film is described as a fresh start for the long-running franchise. Sources told Deadline that the story will not tie into any past movies or ongoing TV shows.

It is also not linked to earlier film ideas that were previously in development. Instead, this project is expected to explore a different corner of the Star Trek universe, Deadline reports.

Skydance founder David Ellison recently hinted that the next big-screen chapter would move away from the Chris Pine–led series and introduce audiences to something new. This new movie appears to match that direction, and insiders say the film will likely feature an entirely new cast of characters.

Goldstein and Daley are known for their work on films like Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Game Night, and they have become popular choices for big studio projects. Their involvement suggests Paramount wants a lighter, more playful tone while still building a large-scale adventure.

Paramount has not revealed when production may begin or when the film might reach theaters, and plot details remain tightly guarded.
