Joseph Kosinski Finally Has Some News Regarding ‘F1’ Sequel
After the huge box office success of F1 The Movie, talk of a follow-up has been growing. Variety was the first to report that a sequel was being considered, and the Financial Times also wrote about the chance of a full franchise.
Interest only increased when Tim Cook spoke about it a few weeks ago. While speaking with Variety at the 2025 Emmy Awards, he said that more films were being talked about. He explained, “It’s definitely something that’s being talked about; it’s been such a huge summer blockbuster for us, we’re so proud of it.” He also gave a lot of credit to the cast, especially Brad Pitt.
The film made a strong impact with fans and critics. It brought Formula 1 to the screen in a way that felt bigger and more intense than past racing films, and it proved that there’s a huge audience for stories set in the world of motorsport.
Now director Joseph Kosinski has also opened up about the idea of a sequel. Speaking about the project, he said that the team is already thinking about what could come next. Kosinski explained, “We’re in that stage, we’re just kind of dreaming up what the next chapter for Sonny Hayes and APXGP would be. But you know, based on the reaction from around the world to this movie, you know it’s something that people wanna see, I’d be happy to go back and do it because we had so much fun making this one.”
F1 The Movie was released in June and starred Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former driver who returns after decades away to help his old team, APXGP.
The movie was directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger. Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem also appeared in the cast. Production began in 2023 and included filming at real Grand Prix events with help from the FIA and several F1 teams. Lewis Hamilton also worked on the film as a producer.
The film became a major hit, earning more than $631 million worldwide. It was Apple’s highest-grossing movie ever and the biggest box office success of Brad Pitt’s career. Critics responded well too, with strong scores on Rotten Tomatoes and CinemaScore. Many praised the movie’s realistic racing scenes and the energy of Kosinski’s direction.
With fans showing so much love for the first film, it’s no surprise that Apple and the creative team are now seriously looking at a second chapter.
