Amanda Seyfried is already thinking about what a third “Mamma Mia” movie could look like, and she has a few famous names in mind.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the Governors Awards, the actress said she would love to bring both Sydney Sweeney and Sabrina Carpenter into the next film.

She has mentioned Carpenter before, but this time she also said she hopes her “The Housemaid” co-star Sweeney joins the cast.

During the interview, Seyfried was asked whether a new “Mamma Mia” was really on the way. She answered, “Maybe I’m just naive, but I’m pretty sure ‘Mamma Mia 3’ is a done deal.” She shared that she imagines the story jumping back to the present day and following Sophie again, instead of going into the past like the second film did.

Seyfried explained that there are many young actresses who would like to be part of the franchise. She said she enjoys playing a mom and could see Sophie with her children in the next chapter.

She added another idea about how Carpenter could fit into the story. “Maybe she has a cousin she hasn’t seen in a while, and that could be Sabrina Carpenter. And then Sydney Sweeney could show up. There’s a bunch of girls that really want to be a part of it, and I’m all for it.”

Work on a third movie has been talked about for years. Producer Judy Craymer said back in 2020 that a new film was being planned and that new ABBA songs could be used in it.

The pandemic slowed things down, but ABBA later released their album “Voyage” in 2021, which gave fans hope again. Not everyone was convinced, though. In 2023, ABBA’s Benny Andersson told BBC Two’s Newsnight that another sequel sounded like “wishful thinking.” Later that year, Craymer said once more that a third movie “will happen.”
