Brendan Fraser is finally speaking about The Mummy 4 and what he calls the movie he’s always wanted to make. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Fraser said he’s been waiting 20 years for the chance to make the film he truly envisioned.

Fraser explained that while the first three Mummy films were exciting experiences, none of them were exactly what he had hoped to create.

“The one I wanted to make was never made,” he told the AP. He reflected on the third movie, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, saying, “The third one was a model of … how can I say this to the AP reporter? NBC had the rights to broadcast the Olympics that year. So they put two together and we went to China.”

“Working in Shanghai, an incredible experience. I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie. We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck and gave it our best shot. But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.” He said.

After the third movie, there were talks about continuing the franchise. Actress Maria Bello had confirmed she would return, and actor Luke Ford was reportedly signed on for three films. However, plans for a new installment were canceled in 2012, and Universal eventually went in the direction of a reboot.

Now, Variety confirmed that Universal is officially developing a fourth Mummy film. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are attached to direct, with David Coggeshall writing the script. Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to reprise their roles, bringing back the original stars that fans love.

This new film is giving Fraser the opportunity to finally make the movie he has imagined for decades, and fans are excited to see the return of the classic adventure series.
