Hugh Jackman’s New Romance Goes Instagram Official — and Fans Aren’t Having It
Hugh Jackman surprised many fans this week when he posted about Sutton Foster on Instagram, making their relationship public for the first time.
He shared a photo and a short video from one of her holiday shows in New York City. The performance took place at Cafe Carlyle, and it was the first time he had openly shown their romance on his social media. In his caption, he called the night magical and said it felt like a classic New York moment.
People who saw the post quickly noticed how happy he seemed, but the reaction in the comments was mostly angry. Some fans wrote messages showing their disappointment. One person said, “I lost all my respect for you. I know you won’t care but I do.” Another wrote, “Reminiscent of the praise you always heaped on Deb.” Others added harsh comments like, “People actually pay to see and hear her shrieking ????,” “Team Debora,” and “So disappointing.” Many users said they did not like Foster, and some blamed Jackman for moving on.
Information about their relationship first came out in late 2024 when several media outlets reported that the two had become romantically involved. Sources close to them said they had known each other since 2008 through their Broadway work but only grew closer years later.
These sources also said the couple often spends time together in New York, going out for dinner and supporting each other’s careers. They said both Jackman and Foster attend each other’s shows and are very present for each other.
Some fans have pointed out the timing of everything, since Foster filed for divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin just a month before news of her relationship with Jackman became public. This raised questions about when exactly their romance started, but neither Jackman nor Foster has commented on it.
Their relationship became more noticeable in early 2025 when Jackman was seen at Foster’s final week of performances in Los Angeles for the show Once Upon a Mattress.
That appearance made people think their connection was serious. Later in October, the pair walked the red carpet together at the premiere of Song Sung Blue, a movie Jackman stars in. Paparazzi also photographed them traveling together at Los Angeles International Airport not long after, adding more proof that they were openly together.
