James Gunn Reveals Fans’ Top Choice for Batman’s Batsuit
James Gunn recently spoke on Threads about the Batsuit fans most want to see in upcoming DC films.
According to Gunn, the blue and grey version of Batman’s costume is the most requested. “The most requested thing would be the blue & grey. Then the yellow around the bat… But all of those things I find less important than the character himself, the writing, & the person who plays him,” he explained.

Gunn added that while fans have clear preferences, opinions are split. “Even the most requested thing – the blue and grey – is split evenly with people who don’t want that. And the other two most requested things are also things just as many people say they don’t want to see. So you have to do what’s right by the specific film and story.”

The DC Universe’s Batman is set to appear in The Brave and The Bold, which will explore the Bat-Family and introduce Bruce Wayne’s son Damian Wayne as Robin. Gunn described the story as a “strange father and son story” focusing on Batman and Robin.
When Gunn and producer Peter Safran joined the DCU, studio executive David Zaslav confirmed there wouldn’t be multiple Batmans.
The Brave and The Bold was included in the initial DCU slate and draws inspiration from Grant Morrison’s comic run between 2006 and 2013. Ben Affleck will not return as Batman, while Matt Reeves’s version will continue separately under DC’s Elseworlds label.
Andy Muschietti, known for directing The Flash, was initially hired to direct The Brave and The Bold in June 2023, with his sister Barbara co-producing alongside Gunn and Safran. However, by December 2024, development was delayed due to Muschietti’s other projects and to avoid overlap with Reeves’s The Batman: Part II.
By February, a writer had been brought on to work closely with Gunn on the script. Muschietti was not actively involved at that point, but Safran confirmed he would review the script once it was ready.
