Miley Cyrus Says Her Walmart Deal Ended After She Was Caught Smoking a Joint
Miley Cyrus looked back on her teenage years during a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, sharing a story that still surprises fans today.
While talking with Jimmy Kimmel, she joked that a major business deal she once had with Walmart disappeared after a video of her smoking weed surfaced when she was younger.
Kimmel brought up his own trouble with Disney earlier this year, saying he had caused the company a lot of stress and money during his temporary suspension. Miley responded with support, pointing out that Disney welcomed him back even after the backlash. She then compared it to what happened to her, saying she never got the same second chance.
She said, “I smoked a joint when I had a Walmart deal and I thought they would come crawling back, they never did. I never worked with them again. Disney did pretty good, you’re back. We are happy.”

Her story lines up with what she previously told Variety. Back then, Walmart gave her an ultimatum when she had a clothing line with them. She said, “I had a clothing line at Walmart and got kicked out, because they said you had to choose weed or Walmart. And you see what I did – I chose weed.”
During her time on the show, Miley also spoke about her work outside of entertainment. She talked about running her nonprofit, the Happy Hippie Foundation, which focuses on helping LGBTQ youth and young people facing homelessness. Miley explained that this work has given her a deeper purpose.
She said, “My empowerment comes from feeling like I have a purpose now. On my tombstone, I didn’t want the ‘Wrecking Ball’ lyrics. I wanted it to be something greater. I’m the only Disney star who would say I’m pro lesbian and gay, before it was OK to say that.”
