My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spin-off and prequel to Kōhei Horikoshi’s popular My Hero Academia series. The story takes place five years before the events of the main series and focuses on Koichi Haimawari, a young man who uses his Quirk to help people even though he’s not a licensed hero.
Koichi and street performer Kazuho Haneyama get attacked by a group of thugs but are saved by the powerful vigilante Knuckleduster. He recruits them to become vigilantes themselves, taking the fight against crime into their own hands.
The anime adaptation is produced by Bones Film and was first announced at Jump Festa ’25 in December 2024. The first season aired from April to June on Tokyo MX and other networks. It was directed by Kenichi Suzuki, with Yōsuke Kuroda handling the scripts, Takahiko Yoshida designing the characters, and music composed by Yuki Hayashi, Shogo Yamashiro, and Yuki Furuhashi. The opening theme for the first season was Kekka Orai by Kocchi no Kento, and the ending theme was Speed by yutori.
The series has been licensed for streaming in South and Southeast Asia, as well as Oceania (except Australia and New Zealand), through Ani-One Asia’s YouTube channel, according to sources from Medialink. The second season will feature new theme songs, with Catch by Surii as the opening and Miss You by shytaupe as the ending. Crunchyroll will continue to stream the series internationally.
Fans of the series can expect the new season to continue exploring Koichi and Kazuho’s journey as vigilantes, navigating challenges and threats in a world where not everyone can become a licensed hero.
