James Gunn has shared the first teaser for the upcoming Supergirl movie, giving fans their first look at Milly Alcock in action as Kara Zor-El.

The teaser was posted by Gunn on social media, and it quickly spread across the internet as excitement for the full trailer grew. The footage follows Warner Bros.’ big Supergirl showcase at CCXP25, where the studio pushed the film heavily.

The teaser is short, but it shows Alcock suited up as Supergirl for the first time in motion. Before this, fans had only seen the official images that were shown during CCXP. Those photos included the full costume display and some early hints at the world the movie will explore.

Warner Bros., which is releasing the film, set up a Supergirl booth at CCXP that highlighted many parts of the movie. People who visited saw the official suit, props connected to the story, nods to Krypto, and pieces of the film’s alien settings.

Supergirl is being directed by Craig Gillespie with a script by Ana Nogueira. James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing it for DC Studios. Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El, and the cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The story follows Supergirl as she travels across the galaxy and faces a tragedy that sends her on a mission for revenge.

The movie has been in development in different forms for several years. A Supergirl film was first planned during the old DCEU era, and the character later appeared in The Flash in 2023. After Gunn and Safran became the heads of DC Studios in 2022, plans changed. A new movie was announced in early 2023, inspired by the comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Milly Alcock was chosen in 2024 and later filmed scenes for the Superman movie before starting work on Supergirl. Production took place in England and Scotland from January to May of this year.

Warner Bros. says the film will hit theaters on June 26, 2026, as part of the DC Universe’s first chapter called Gods and Monsters.

The story of the film centers on Kara as she turns 21 and heads out into space with her dog Krypto. She meets a girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, and a terrible event pushes Kara into what has been described as a violent and emotional search for justice. The main idea was taken from the recent comic run by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

Fans will learn more when the full trailer arrives later this week. For now, Gunn’s teaser gives them a small preview of what is coming.
