Quentin Tarantino Calls Israel Home, Says He’d “Die as a Zionist”
Quentin Tarantino and his wife Daniella Pick are firmly settled in Israel, calling the country their permanent home. In a recent interview with Channel 12’s Danny Hecht, Pick shared insights into their family life in Tel Aviv and how the famous Hollywood director handled living through the war with their two children.
When asked if Tarantino had considered leaving Israel for safety as bombs fell, Pick was clear: “Absolutely not. First of all, Quentin takes it the easiest way in the world. Most of the time, he wouldn’t even go down to the shelter if I didn’t tell him… He isn’t afraid, and once he said something funny to me: ‘Well, whatever. Like if something happens, I’ll die as a Zionist.’ So I said, ‘Well, OK.’”
She added that the decision to stay during the conflict was never in question: “It was during the war that Tarantino said, ‘We’ll be here.’ It was clear.”
Although there were reports of Tarantino working on a play in London, Pick emphasized that they have no plans to leave their home in north Tel Aviv. Tarantino enjoys family life in Israel, often spending time with his children, walking or biking around the neighborhood, and socializing with friends. “I love it [in Israel]. If I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t be there. Playing with my kids, walking around the neighborhood… Just going out with my good friends and having fun,” he told reporters.
Pick praised her husband as a father and partner, saying, “He’s warm, family-oriented, huggable, funny, and playful, and he’s also an amazing and supportive husband… From the first moment we met, we got along really well.” The couple met in 2009 while Pick was a model and singer and Tarantino was promoting Inglourious Basterds. They married in 2018.
Pick gave a peek inside their home, highlighting Tarantino’s elaborate screening room, where he enjoys watching films with friends. She noted that the room is soundproof with a heavy door, necessary for his loud reactions, and even has a mezuzah.
The couple is also working on creative projects together. Tarantino encouraged Pick, who had a cameo in his last film, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, to take a role in the new movie The Perfect Gamble, directed by Israeli filmmaker Danny A. Abeckaser. “My most important piece of advice was to know the lines… I helped her learn her lines,” Tarantino said. Pick added that she practiced them at home while doing chores. She is also reviving her music career and preparing for her first Hollywood premiere.
Pick spoke about the challenges of her personal life, including the loss of her father, Israeli pop icon Zvika Pick, describing it as too painful to discuss until now. She also shared small details of their everyday life, including Tarantino’s love for very spicy food. “I take a taste and drink three glasses of water, over and over again until it’s spicy enough, and he says, ‘Yes, it’s spicy,'” she said.
Reflecting on their family journey, Pick said that Tarantino had once worried he might never have a family. “I’m very happy for him that it happened, after everything he dreamed of before happened to him… He was able to fulfill himself in writing as well as a father and as a partner.” She described their current life as harmonious, allowing her to pursue work and personal growth while maintaining a strong, happy home.
