Jeremy Allen White Would Love to Star in a Rom-Com
Kate Hudson and Jeremy Allen White recently shared some thoughts about movies in a conversation with Variety. Hudson reflected on her early career, saying, “I got the part when I was 19. It was a dream. I had already started writing music at 18 years old, but to have someone like Cameron be this wellspring of musical information? It blew my mind, and it blew my life open.”
During the interview, Hudson asked White if he would ever consider acting in a romantic comedy. White was enthusiastic, replying, “I’d love to. I’ve never done one before but they seem so fun.” Hudson, however, warned that rom-coms are trickier than they seem.
“They’re harder than you think. The rules are different. You want to make it for the people showing up to see it. They want something out of it, too. They want to feel, to laugh.”
White admitted he is careful about choosing the right role. “I worry about finding the right character, because I’d want it to be a classic rom-com. Not a flash in the pan, but ‘When Harry Met Sally.’” Hudson agreed, calling that type of film “one of the greats” and saying that doing a good romantic comedy can have a big impact.
“It’s a game-changer for your life. You can’t imagine how many people you help feel good.”
Aside from talking about rom-coms, White has been busy starring in the new movie Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere. The film, released in 2025, is a biographical musical drama about Bruce Springsteen during the making of his 1982 album Nebraska. Directed by Scott Cooper, it is based on Warren Zanes’ book of the same name and parts of Springsteen’s autobiography Born to Run. The cast also includes Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, and Odessa Young.
The movie premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in August and hit theaters in the U.S. in late October. Critics gave mixed reviews, but both White and Strong were praised for their performances. The film has earned $45 million worldwide on a $55 million budget.
It’s exciting to hear White talk about trying something new like a rom-com, especially since he has mostly done dramatic roles. It would be interesting to see how he adapts to a lighter, fun genre.
