The hosts of “The View” strongly criticized Donald Trump after comments he made following the death of filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner. Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele were found dead in what authorities are treating as a homicide. Trump’s response to the news sparked backlash on the daytime talk show, with the co-hosts calling his remarks offensive and inappropriate.

During the show, co-host Sunny Hostin began reading Trump’s public reaction to Reiner’s death. Before she could finish, Whoopi Goldberg stepped in and told her to stop. “Don’t read it, just tell them that it’s there,” Goldberg said. Hostin agreed and added, “I don’t think that’s something we should be hearing about.”

Trump shared his statement on his Truth Social account. In the post, he suggested that Reiner’s death was linked to anger caused by Reiner’s outspoken criticism of him.

Trump claimed Reiner suffered from what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a term he often uses to attack critics. He ended the post by saying, “May Rob and Michele rest in peace!” Screenshots and transcripts of the post were widely shared online and discussed on television, including on “The View.”

Ana Navarro delivered the harshest response on the show. She said Trump’s post crossed a line, especially given the circumstances. “There’s an American family grieving,” Navarro said. “This is a tragedy, not just for the family, but for everyone who loved him. For the President of the United States to make this about himself and attack Rob Reiner for using his right to speak out is shameful. It is disgraceful.” Navarro added that the comment ranked among the worst things Trump has done publicly.

Goldberg also spoke about her personal connection to Reiner. She worked with him on the 1996 film “Ghosts of Mississippi.” She described him as “an outspoken activist and quite a guy, quite an amazing man.”

The discussion comes as the criminal case continues to unfold. Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested in connection with the deaths of his parents.

According to law enforcement information reported by multiple outlets, he is being held on suspicion of murder. His bail has been set at $4 million. Authorities have not yet released full details about the case.

The reactions on “The View” reflect a wider public response, with many criticizing Trump for making political attacks in the middle of a family tragedy. The story continues to develop as investigators work to clarify what happened and as public figures weigh in on the controversy surrounding Trump’s remarks.
