Jack White has publicly criticized President Donald Trump over his controversial comments following the death of actor and director Rob Reiner. Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele were found dead at their California home in what police are investigating as an apparent homicide. Their son Nick has been arrested in connection to their deaths.

Trump posted on Truth Social, claiming Reiner’s death was linked to “the anger he caused others” and referencing what he calls “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

The post quickly drew criticism for appearing to blame Reiner rather than focus on the tragedy. Trump wrote that Reiner had “passed away due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.” He ended the post with, “May Rob and Michele rest in peace.”

In response, Jack White took to Instagram to condemn Trump’s remarks. Reposting a screenshot of the post, White wrote, “Trump you disgusting, vile, egomaniac loser, child. Neither he nor any one of his followers can defend this gross, horrible insult to a beautiful artist who gave the world so much. To use someone’s tragic death to promote your own vanity and fascist authoritarian agenda is a corrupt and narcissistic sin. Shame on you Trump and anyone who defends this.”

White’s post redirected attention to Reiner’s legacy, highlighting his contributions as both an artist and a political voice. Reiner was known for films that explored complex political themes, including A Few Good Men, The American President, Shock and Awe, and LBJ. In interviews, he openly criticized Trump, calling the former president an incompetent figure attempting to reshape the country. In a May interview with Rolling Stone, Reiner said, “And because he’s so dumb and he’s such an incompetent person, he’ll fail, just like he’s failed with everything he’s ever done in his life.”

White concluded his Instagram message with a tribute to Reiner, writing, “God bless you Rob Reiner and thank you for what you gave the world. I never even met you and I still stand by you.”

This incident highlights the ongoing tension between public figures commenting on sensitive events and the families affected by tragedy. Using someone’s death to push political points often provokes backlash, as seen in White’s strong reaction.
