Josh Gad Fires Back at Trump: Calls Him a “Psychopath” Over Rob Reiner Remarks
Hollywood and political figures have strongly criticized President Donald Trump over his reaction to the deaths of actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple, both in their late 70s, were found dead in what authorities are treating as a homicide. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, has been taken into custody in connection with the case.
Trump reacted to the news on his Truth Social account, claiming that Reiner’s death was “due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” He added that Reiner had “driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump” and described him as “a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star.”

The comments drew immediate backlash from celebrities and public figures. On the daytime talk show The View, co-hosts spoke out against Trump. When Sunny Hostin started reading his post on air, Whoopi Goldberg interrupted, saying: “Don’t read it, just tell them that it’s there.” Hostin added, “I don’t think that’s something we should be hearing about.”
Co-host Ana Navarro criticized Trump sharply, saying: “For Trump to have put that out today, I’m gonna say it: You know, damn it, there’s an American family grieving. This is a tragedy not just for the family, but for all who knew and loved him, and for the President of the United States to make this about him as a way to attack Rob Reiner, because he exercised his American right to speak up with what he disagreed with, is shameful. It is disgraceful. And of all the disgusting things that Donald Trump has done, this is right up there.”
Goldberg, who worked with Reiner on the 1996 film Ghosts of Mississippi, praised him as “an outspoken activist and quite a guy, quite an amazing man.”
Other celebrities also criticized Trump. Musician Jack White wrote on Instagram: “Trump you disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child. Neither he nor any one of his followers can defend this gross, horrible insult to a beautiful artist who gave the world so much. To use someone’s tragic death to promote your own vanity and fascist authoritarian agenda is a corrupt and narcissistic sin. Shame on you Trump and anyone who defends this. God bless you Rob Reiner and thank you for what you gave the world. I never even met you and I still stand by you.”

Actor Josh Gad also spoke out on Threads: “There is no low that is too low for this f**** psychopath. Rob Reiner was 1000 times the man you are and unlike you, he actually cared about the American people. Go paint your hand on your gold f**** toilet and destroy things like the White House. That’s what you do best.”

Trump later defended his statements during a press conference, saying: “Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned… I thought he was very bad for our country.”
Nick Reiner remains in custody. His bail was initially set at $4 million but was later revoked. Authorities continue to investigate the deaths of the Reiners.
