Mick Foley Severs WWE Ties Amid Trump’s Rob Reiner Comments
WWE legend Mick Foley has announced that he is cutting ties with the company, citing President Donald Trump’s recent comments about the late filmmaker Rob Reiner as the final straw.
Foley shared his decision on Instagram, explaining that his concerns about WWE’s ongoing relationship with Trump had been growing for months.
Foley, a WWE Hall of Famer who helped define the company’s “Attitude Era” and famously defeated The Rock for the WWE Championship in 1999, said he will no longer appear for WWE while Trump is president and will not renew his Legends deal when it expires in June. “I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, ‘I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more,’” Foley wrote.

The controversy stems from Trump’s comments about Rob Reiner following the filmmaker’s death. On Monday, Trump said Reiner’s death was linked to his “raging obsession” with the president and labeled him a “deranged person.”
The remarks were widely condemned, including by members of Trump’s own party. Singer Jack White also criticized Trump, calling him a “disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child” and said it was a “corrupt and narcissistic sin” to use someone’s death to promote vanity and authoritarian ideas.

Foley criticized WWE colleagues who continue to associate with Trump. “How any of my WWE colleagues can stand by, let alone stand next to this man is beyond me,” he said in an Instagram story.
Trump has a long history with WWE, dating back to on-screen appearances in the mid-2000s and his 2013 induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
His close ties with the McMahon family, including Linda McMahon’s work in his administration, have repeatedly put WWE in the political spotlight. While some celebrities and companies have distanced themselves from Trump, WWE has embraced him publicly, creating tension around Foley’s departure.
Foley’s break from WWE is one of the most high-profile exits over political controversy in years. His decision puts the company in a difficult position, especially given McMahon’s government ties and WWE’s long-standing connection to Trump.
