Lily Allen has opened up about her struggle with a shopping addiction and the therapy she’s using to manage it. The English singer spoke candidly on her podcast, “Miss Me?” during a new episode released Monday, December 22, where she discussed her spending habits and her recent therapy experiences.

Allen revealed that she recently took part in EMDR therapy to address her issues with money and self-worth. “I actually did EMDR therapy yesterday on my spending,” she said. “And how it’s related to my sense of self-worth and we tried to separate the two. So let’s see how that goes.”

She explained that part of her struggle comes from feelings of not deserving money. “I think I try and get rid of it (money) because I don’t think I deserve it,” Allen shared during the episode with co-host Miquita Oliver.

Oliver asked Allen to explain EMDR therapy, prompting the singer to describe how it works. “EMDR therapy is a special type of therapy,” she said. “There’s like, what do you call it? Like stimuli that stimulate the left side and the right side of your brain.” Allen added that the therapy helps create new pathways in the brain to deal with certain behaviors or past experiences.

The singer also said she has been practicing EMDR therapy for several months and has found it very helpful. “I started doing EMDR about four months ago, five months ago. It’s like been life changing. I just absolutely love it,” Allen said. She also reminded listeners that she is not a medical professional. “I am not a doctor and I am not qualified to give that kind of advice. But this is what is working for me currently,” she added.

Through her honesty, Allen highlighted the importance of addressing personal struggles and seeking help, even for issues that may seem surprising, like a shopping addiction.
