Prime Video Is Reportedly Launching a ‘Fallout: Shelter’ Reality Competition Show

Prime Video may be expanding its Fallout franchise in an unexpected direction.

According to insider Jeff Sneider, the streaming service is reportedly developing a reality competition show based on Fallout Shelter, the popular free-to-play simulator where players manage a vault and ensure its inhabitants survive.

While Amazon Studios has not confirmed the project, the concept seems plausible. The series could challenge contestants to manage resources like food, water, and other essentials to keep their vault dwellers alive, similar to how Squid Game: The Challenge translated the Netflix series into a real-world competition.

Details on the exact format are still unclear, with the show potentially taking place in a single large vault or multiple vaults.

Veteran producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are said to be overseeing the series through their Kilter Films banner, while Bethesda Game Studios, the creator of the Fallout games, is producing. Filming could begin as early as next year.

The reality series would build on the success of the Fallout TV adaptation. Season 2 recently premiered and earned a 95% fresh rating from critics.

Bethesda is also working closely with Prime Video to bring elements of the TV show into Fallout 76, ensuring consistency between the game and the series. Todd Howard, director at Bethesda and executive producer on the TV series, explained, “We’re having those conversations now of, what are we doing in Season 3 for the TV show and what elements can we bring into our games at that time when it comes out that don’t feel forced or fake.”

If it happens, a Fallout Shelter competition series could give fans a new way to engage with the franchise while blending gaming and television.
