Former Child Star Found Living on the Streets, Family Breaks Silence on Tragic Struggle
Tylor Chase, the former Nickelodeon actor known for “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide,” has been found living on the streets of Los Angeles, according to a viral video first posted in September.
The 36-year-old actor has battled mental health issues, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, as well as substance abuse, for over a decade.

Chase’s father, Joseph Mendez Jr., told the Daily Mail that the family has tried multiple times to get him help. “For over a decade, the family has sought treatment options for Tylor, including support for substance use as well as mental health care,” Mendez said. He added, “He’s a wonderful person when he’s Tylor.”
In 2015, Chase was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The family managed to get him into rehab in Georgia around 2021, but he eventually stopped the treatment and resumed using substances. Mendez explained that Chase later returned to California to be closer to his mother, Paula Moisio.
Recent footage shows Chase digging behind a 7/11 in Riverside, wearing tattered clothes and appearing disheveled. Despite his visible struggles, Chase denied having mental illness while acknowledging that he takes several prescribed medications, including Prozac, Adderall, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and Sudafed.
Riverside court records list 12 incidents involving Chase since 2023, mainly related to shoplifting and substance use. Police say he is not wanted for any crime. Authorities have stayed in contact with Chase through the Public Safety Engagement team, but he has consistently refused shelter or assistance.
Chase told reporters that he receives support from his mother and plans to return to Georgia soon. “I’m not really active homeless at this time. I’m thinking that I would like to go see my dad, relatively shortly, in the state of Georgia,” he said. He added that he hopes to access a housing assistance program there.
This story highlights the harsh realities that can follow former child stars. Despite his fame as a young actor, Chase’s struggles with mental health and addiction show how critical family support and accessible care are. It’s heartbreaking to see someone with so much potential in such a vulnerable situation.
