MCU Star Reacts to Wild Rumors Linking Him to Michelle Obama: “I Was So Excited”

Kumail Nanjiani is pushing back against a strange rumor that connected him to Michelle Obama, and he is doing it with humor.

The actor and comedian talked about the gossip during a recent episode of the podcast So True With Caleb Hearon, which aired on December 25. That podcast is the main source of the story. Kumail explained that he had heard people were claiming he had an affair with the former first lady, even though the claim was completely false.

“There was a rumor going around last year that I was having an affair with Michelle Obama,” he said on the show. “I know, I was so excited.”

Kumail said he did not even know the rumor existed until someone mentioned it to his wife, Emily Gordon. The couple has been married since 2007. According to Kumail, a mutual friend told Emily about the gossip and expected a reaction, but she did not take it seriously at all.

Kumail made it clear that there is no truth behind the story. “I’ve never met Michelle Obama,” he said, ending any doubt about the situation.

During the podcast, host Caleb Hearon pointed out that this rumor surfaced not long after another viral story involving the Obamas. That earlier rumor falsely claimed that former President Barack Obama was romantically linked to actress Jennifer Aniston.

Jennifer Aniston had already laughed off that claim during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in October, which is another source connected to this story. She joked about how random the rumor was. “Of all the calls you get from your publicist where you’re like, ‘Oh no, what’s it gonna be?’” she said. She added that she was not upset by it and later clarified, “I know Michelle more than him.”

When Kumail heard about Jennifer’s reaction, he played along with the joke. He sarcastically asked, “What do we think? We think it’s real?” Caleb responded by teasing that Kumail was now being mentioned in the same conversations as Jennifer Aniston.

Kumail continued joking but also showed respect for everyone involved. “I think Michelle’s slumming it,” he joked, before adding, “And to be honest, no shade to Jen, Barack’s slumming it too.” He then made his point clear by saying, “Michelle Obama is a very high bar to clear. And I love Jennifer Aniston, I’m genuinely a huge fan.”

False rumors often follow famous people, and the Obamas have dealt with many over the years. While they have spoken openly about their lives since leaving the White House in 2017, stories like these are usually ignored or laughed off by those involved.
