Mel Gibson, 69, and Rosalind Ross, 35, End Nearly a Decade-Long Relationship

Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross have ended their relationship after nearly nine years together, PEOPLE confirms.

The couple, who quietly split about a year ago, will continue to co-parent their 8-year-old son, Lars. In a joint statement, they told PEOPLE, “Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible.”

Gibson, 69, is no stranger to parenting a large family. Alongside Lars, he has eight older children. He shares daughter Hannah and six adult sons with his ex-wife Robyn Moore, as well as a 16-year-old daughter, Lucia, with former partner Oksana Grigorieva.

In January, Gibson and Ross faced a major challenge when they lost their Malibu home in the Los Angeles wildfires. Gibson was away at the time, but his family and their animals were safely evacuated.

Reflecting on the event, he said during a NewsNation appearance, “The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way, that’s all I can care about, really.”

Professionally, Gibson is currently working on The Resurrection of the Christ, the follow-up to his 2004 biblical drama The Passion of the Christ. The film will be released in two parts, with the first installment set for Good Friday, March 26, 2027.

Gibson’s personal life has been heavily covered over the years. He married Robyn Moore in 1980 after meeting her in 1977, and the couple had seven children together. They separated in 2006, and their divorce was finalized in 2011, reportedly making it one of the largest settlements in Hollywood history at over $400 million.

Following his split from Moore, Gibson had a relationship with Oksana Grigorieva, which ended amid legal disputes and allegations of domestic violence. He later reconciled the situation through a no-contest plea, maintaining his innocence while resolving the matter privately for the sake of his children.

Gibson began dating Rosalind Ross, a former equestrian vaulter and writer, in 2014. Ross gave birth to their son in 2017. The couple’s recent separation marks the end of nearly a decade together, but both remain focused on raising their son collaboratively.
