Two Hit Movie Franchises Are Becoming Video Games
Lionsgate has confirmed that a new video game based on the John Wick film series is officially in development.
Adam Fogelson of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group revealed the news during an earnings call in November, according to Tech4Gamers. He said that several of Lionsgate’s properties, including John Wick and Saw, are being adapted into games.
“Our AAA game opportunities and other gaming opportunities around John Wick and Saw and some others that we’ll be announcing soon,” Fogelson said.
He added that development is progressing on schedule and that Lionsgate has seen growing interest in turning its films into video games.
The John Wick franchise, starring Keanu Reeves as a retired hitman pulled back into the criminal underworld, has become one of the most popular action series of the last decade.
Known for its high-octane fight scenes, precise choreography, and stylish visuals, the franchise has attracted a large global fan base and has made Reeves an iconic figure in modern action cinema. Its blend of intense action, unique world-building, and strong storytelling has made John Wick a prime candidate for a large-scale video game adaptation.
Lionsgate first discussed plans for a big-budget John Wick game back in 2023, but little information has been released until now. The franchise was previously adapted into a smaller game in 2019 called John Wick Hex, a tactical RPG that served as a prequel to the movies. The upcoming game is expected to be a major AAA release, offering fans a more immersive way to experience the world of John Wick.
This announcement also includes plans for a Saw video game, another of Lionsgate’s well-known franchises. Saw, famous for its intricate traps and psychological horror, has been a long-running success in the horror genre, with a dedicated fan base eager to experience its deadly games in a new, interactive format.
The move into video games reflects Lionsgate’s growing interest in expanding its film properties into other media. “Progress remains on schedule,” Fogelson said, highlighting the company’s confidence in adapting its popular franchises for gamers.
With John Wick and Saw both having strong followings, these adaptations have the potential to attract both movie fans and gamers. Turning these cinematic worlds into interactive experiences could bring a fresh perspective to their stories and let fans step into the worlds they love.
