George Clooney responded to President Donald Trump’s social media comments about his recent French citizenship with a pointed political remark, hinting at the upcoming midterm elections.

Trump had posted on Truth Social on New Year’s Eve, calling Clooney’s move “Good News!” and recalling the actor’s 2024 op-ed in which he urged former President Biden to step aside. In a rambling post, Trump criticized Clooney’s political involvement and called his film career “totally mediocre.”

Clooney, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump, fired back using the president’s own campaign language. “I totally agree with the current president. We have to make America great again. We’ll start in November,” Clooney said, implying that he sees the upcoming elections as a chance for Democrats to regain control of Congress.

The actor, along with his wife Amal Clooney and their children, recently received French citizenship. Clooney has praised France’s privacy laws, highlighting the protections they offer from paparazzi trying to photograph his family.

In a recent Variety cover story, Clooney reflected on his past friendship with Trump, describing him as once being a “goofball” and recounting personal interactions, including Trump’s attempts to assist him with a medical matter. Clooney noted that their relationship changed over time.

He also criticized major U.S. news networks, arguing that CBS and ABC should have fought Trump’s lawsuits more aggressively. “If CBS and ABC had challenged those lawsuits and said, ‘Go f*** yourself,’ we wouldn’t be where we are in the country. That’s simply the truth,” Clooney stated.

Clooney’s remarks continue his trend of speaking openly about politics, blending personal experience with commentary on the state of the country. His French citizenship and political engagement make him a prominent voice in both Hollywood and public debates.
