Duffer Brothers Reveal Whether Robin and Vickie Are Still Together in ‘Stranger Things’

The ending of Stranger Things answered many questions for fans, but one character was missing from the final moments. Vickie did not appear in the flash-forward scene, and her absence quickly raised questions about her relationship with Robin.

The show ends with an 18-month jump into the future, showing what life looks like for most of the Hawkins group. While many familiar faces returned, Vickie was not seen or mentioned. This left viewers wondering if she and Robin were still together.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer spoke about this in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. They said the topic did come up while working on the finale, but they chose not to give a clear answer.

“We did talk about where Vickie ended up,” Ross Duffer said. He explained that the final scenes were meant to show only part of the characters’ futures. “We want to leave it a little bit up to fans in terms of where these characters end up ultimately,” he added. “Do Robin and Vickie stay together? Maybe, maybe not.”

Matt Duffer shared his own thoughts and seemed less hopeful about the relationship lasting. He pointed out that most high school romances do not survive after graduation.

“From my point of view and from everyone I knew in high school, what percentage of couples remain together after they leave for college? Extremely low,” he said. He added that some relationships are stronger than others. “Max and Lucas survive because their love is that deep, but very few others do.”

Still, Matt did not fully close the door on the idea. “But,” he added, “you never know.”

Robin and Vickie’s relationship became official at the start of the final season. Robin had crushed on Vickie since season four, when they played together in the Hawkins High School band. By season five, Vickie knew about the Upside Down and even helped protect Max during the final battle.

Some fans began to suspect trouble when Robin and Vickie did not attend graduation together. Others pointed to a comment Robin made about “overbearing significant others,” though that line may have been a joke about Steve’s love life.
