Paramount+ has announced that “Mayor of Kingstown” will return for a fifth and final season. The crime drama, starring Jeremy Renner, will have eight episodes in its last season, making it shorter than previous ones.

The series, which started in 2022, follows Renner’s character, Mike McLusky, as he tries to keep order between criminals, police, and prisoners in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan.

Season four ended with a violent finale on December 28, where Mike’s control of the city was challenged by new powers trying to take over. The final season will explore the consequences of that deadly gang conflict.

The cast includes Renner and Dianne Falco, along with Lennie James, Laura Benanti, co-creator Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Hamish Allan-Headley, and Nishi Munshi.

Dillon has said that he and fellow creator Taylor Sheridan had originally planned for the show to run seven seasons. While “Mayor of Kingstown” has received praise from critics, it hasn’t matched the high ratings of some of Sheridan’s other shows, like “Yellowstone” or “Tulsa King.”

Sheridan and Dillon are executive producers on the series, along with Renner, showrunner Dave Erickson, Antoine Fuqua, and a team of producers including David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Wendy Riss. The show is produced by Paramount Television Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions, and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
