Ashley Tisdale is facing public scrutiny after sharing a personal essay about a “toxic” moms’ group. On January 1, the “High School Musical” star, who now goes by Ashley Tisdale French, detailed her decision to leave a group of mothers that had stopped feeling “healthy and positive,” in an essay for The Cut.

Since the essay went viral, fans have speculated about who might have been in the group. Many pointed to a 2021 Instagram post from Hilary Duff showing herself, Tisdale French, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor together. While no one in the alleged group has commented directly on the essay, Duff’s husband, musician Matthew Koma, reacted online.

Koma posted a photoshopped image of Tisdale French with his own face on her head to his Instagram Story. The image featured mock magazine-style headlines, including one that read, “When you’re the most self obsessed tone deaf person on earth, other moms tend to shift focus to their actual toddlers.” He captioned the post, “Read my new interview with [The Cut].”

Duff and Koma have been married since 2019 and share three daughters. Tisdale French and her husband, Christopher French, have two daughters roughly the same ages as Duff and Koma’s youngest children.

The moms’ group has been public knowledge since at least 2021. That year, Duff posted photos of the group with her caption, “All da babies,” showing their children together. Tisdale French also posted at the time about a moms’ weekend away, calling the trip “amazing” and saying she was “so grateful for this trip.”

Fans noticed that Tisdale French still follows Meghan Trainor on social media, but not Duff or Moore, which fueled more speculation. A representative for Tisdale French told TMZ that the essay was about a different moms’ group entirely.
