‘Deadpool 4’ Gets Major MCU Update as Ryan Reynolds’ Next Move Is Reportedly Revealed
Ryan Reynolds is reportedly turning his attention back to the Merc with a Mouth, even as the dust settles on the record-breaking success of his last Marvel outing. Despite initial claims that a fourth solo film was far from the studio’s immediate priorities, new reports suggest the actor is actively shaping Wade Wilson’s next big-screen adventure.
According to a recent report from Puck News, Reynolds is wisely focused on developing a new Deadpool movie. While the actor’s future in the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe remains a topic of heavy speculation, this move ensures he stays connected to the character the public loves him for most.
Reynolds was notably absent from the initial cast announcements for Avengers: Doomsday, which is slated for a December release. This led many to wonder if Deadpool would sit out the next phase of the multiverse saga. However, industry rumors persist that he may still appear in the film to potentially confront Robert Downey Jr.’s Reed Richards variant, though nothing has been confirmed.
Marvel Studios reportedly felt no sense of urgency in rushing into Deadpool 4 last July, choosing instead to focus on upcoming pillars like Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Yet, Reynolds himself hinted in late 2024 that his creative wheels were already turning.
I have some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on Deadpool, Reynolds shared at the time. He is a great supporting or ensemble player. And I would always want Deadpool and Wolverine to be paired in some way.
The actor expressed a desire to avoid being repetitive with the character’s solo journey. Centering Deadpool works best if you take everything away from him and put his back against the wall. I can’t really do that again. A fourth time feels a little iterative and redundant, he explained. That doesn’t mean sacrificing fun. There is still an arc for Deadpool, which is fulfilling and powerful.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman has recently added fuel to the fire, revealing that this upcoming project is indeed being developed as a team-up film rather than a standard solo sequel. This aligns with rumors that Reynolds is looking to pair Wade with several members of the X-Men or even revive his long-gestating X-Force movie concept.
‘DEADPOOL 4’ will reportedly be a team up movie.

When he isn’t navigating the multiverse, Reynolds is balancing a packed schedule of original projects. He is set to star in the upcoming survival comedy Mayday for Apple, alongside Kenneth Branagh, which is expected to premiere in late 2026. He is also lending his voice to the star-studded animated feature Animal Friends, scheduled for a May release.
Reynolds’ last turn as Wade Wilson in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine remains a historic achievement for the genre. Directed by Shawn Levy, the film grossed a staggering $1.3 billion worldwide, securing its place as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
