New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ Details Leak – Here’s What Fans Need to Know
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is starting to take shape, and fans are getting their first real hints about what’s coming.
According to entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider, the next installment will focus on Jack Sparrow’s son and likely Margot Robbie’s. The film has become a priority for Disney’s new leadership, and Krysty Wilson-Cairns, known for 1917, is reportedly in talks to write the script.
The sixth movie has been in development for a long time. Before the release of On Stranger Tides, Disney considered shooting the fifth and sixth films back-to-back, but ultimately only the fifth installment moved forward.
Director Joachim Rønning has said that Dead Men Tell No Tales was only the start of the final adventures and not the end of the series. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed later that a sixth movie was still in the works, and actress Kaya Scodelario said she was contractually signed to return.
Over the years, the project has seen several writers and directors attached. In 2019, Disney announced that Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott would write the sixth movie, and Bruckheimer mentioned in 2020 that the first draft was nearly finished. Johnny Depp, who has been a major part of the franchise, said in 2022 that he did not plan to return because of tensions with Disney after his public legal battles.
Other stars have expressed interest in returning. In early 2023, Orlando Bloom hinted that he would like to come back, while Keira Knightley joked she wouldn’t because her character Elizabeth Swann had already sailed away in style. Bruckheimer has also expressed hope that Depp could return if the project is right.
In 2024, Bruckheimer revealed that two separate Pirates movies were being developed. One would be a full reboot with a new story and script by Jeff Nathanson. The other would be the Margot Robbie-led film, written by Christina Hodson. Bruckheimer said Disney seemed supportive of both projects. “I hope both films will be made,” he told Entertainment Weekly, noting that the reboot would not follow previous characters but that he still hoped Depp might make a cameo.
By mid-2025, Bruckheimer confirmed that the sixth movie would include both returning actors and new faces. When asked about Bloom, he said, “I personally think it’d be great to get the band back together. That would be great, but there are always different ideas, and so we’ll see where it lands.” On Depp’s possible return, he added, “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know.”
After years of shifting plans and multiple rewrites, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 appears to be moving forward with a mix of fan-favorite characters, fresh storylines, and new talent like Margot Robbie. It remains one of Disney’s most ambitious projects, and fans are eager to see how the saga continues on the high seas.
