Henry Cavill has returned to filming the new Highlander movie after a training injury forced production to pause last year. The actor was spotted shooting scenes in London at Westminster Abbey alongside Dave Bautista. Reports from the set say Cavill looked fully recovered and back in action.

The new film puts Cavill in the role of Connor MacLeod, the immortal warrior first introduced in the 1986 fantasy movie. During the latest shoot, both Cavill and Bautista were seen filming intense stunt scenes using wires and practical effects.

Cavill appeared bruised and battered for the sequence, while Bautista was dressed in a dark and dramatic costume as the film’s villain, The Kurgan. The character was originally played by Clancy Brown in the first movie.

Even though they play enemies on screen, witnesses say the two actors looked relaxed and cheerful between takes. Actress Siobhan Cullen was also part of the stunt scenes, riding a motorbike during the action.

The reboot is being directed by Chad Stahelski, known for the John Wick films. The cast also includes Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan and Jeremy Irons. The project is a new take on the long-running Highlander franchise, which began with the 1986 movie about immortal warriors who can only die if they are beheaded. The original film later became a cult favorite and led to several sequels, television series and books.

Cavill previously spoke about preparing for the role at CinemaCon in April 2024. He teased fans about the film’s action scenes and sword fighting. ‘If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.’

The Highlander franchise has grown far beyond its first film. Over the years it expanded into multiple movies and TV shows and built a loyal fanbase. The new version hopes to bring the story to a new generation while keeping the spirit of the original.

The production news comes at a time when Cavill’s name continues to be linked to the James Bond rumors. Betting activity recently increased around Aaron Taylor-Johnson after he hinted at the possibility of taking on the role, but Cavill is still frequently mentioned as a strong contender.

Highlander movie could be a major moment for Cavill and the franchise. Fans have waited years for a fresh version of the story, and the scale of the cast and director shows that the studio is aiming big.

I think the reboot has a lot of potential, especially with a director known for action and a cast that audiences already love. What do you think about this new Highlander film and Henry Cavill in the lead role? Share your thoughts in the comments.
