Winona Ryder Returns to the Addams Family Universe in ‘Wednesday’ Season 3 Teaser
Winona Ryder is set to appear in Wednesday Season 3, reuniting with Jenna Ortega and longtime collaborator Tim Burton, Variety reports.
Ryder’s casting is a nostalgic nod to her role in the original Beetlejuice, where she starred alongside Ortega’s character, with Burton directing both projects. The reunion has fans excited about the connection between the 1988 cult classic and the hit Netflix series. “I am so happy that Winona has joined us, she fits right into this world,” Burton said. “And she’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her.”
Showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar praised Ryder’s return, saying, “When it comes to Outcasts, Winona Ryder is the GOAT. Her legendary partnership with Tim Burton has defined some of cinema’s most unforgettable characters. We loved collaborating with her on ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ and couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome her to Nevermore.”
Wednesday season 3 is now in production.

Ryder recently appeared in the final season of Stranger Things, marking her swift return to Netflix. Details about her character in Wednesday are being kept secret, but fans are eager to see how she will fit into the darkly comedic world of Nevermore Academy.
The announcement follows the casting of Eva Green as Morticia Addams’ sister, Ophelia. Ryder has a long history with Burton, having starred in classics like Edward Scissorhands and the 2012 animated Frankenweenie, as well as the Beetlejuice sequel in 2024. Ryder is a two-time Oscar nominee and has also appeared in TV shows including The Plot Against America and Show Me a Hero.
Alongside Ortega, the Wednesday cast includes Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Isaac Ordonez, Billie Piper, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Victor Dorobantu, Evie Templeton, and other stars such as Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, and Fred Armisen. The show is based on Charles Addams’ characters, with Gough, Millar, and Burton serving as executive producers, and MGM Television producing.
Wednesday Season 2, released in two parts in August and September 2025, became one of Netflix’s biggest hits, ranking as the fifth most-watched English-language season ever. Season 1 still holds the title as the platform’s most-watched season.
Bringing Winona Ryder into the mix is a brilliant move. Her history with Burton and her iconic status in cult classics like Beetlejuice adds a layer of nostalgia and star power that could make Season 3 even more exciting.
